AusAID’s 2nd Annual Mining for Development Conference

The Brief

More than 650 government, community and mining industry representatives from 69 countries around the world convened in Sydney in May 2013 to address the important public policy challenge of how to ensure mining activity contributes to sustainable economic and social development.

Hosted by the International Mining for Development Centre (IM4DC), and supported by AusAID, the 2nd Annual Mining for Development Conference featured prominent international speakers including ministerial representatives from Afghanistan, Mozambique, Peru and Germany.

Impact AV Australia was engaged to provide all audio visual support for the three day event.

The Approach

Special coloured lighting effects and branded gobos transformed the reception of the Sydney Masonic Centre venue, drawing powerful attention to the host’s corporate branding as delegates were welcomed into the building.  The strong theme carried through the venue, including a custom-made, impressive staging backdrop in the auditorium designed to complement all other signage and banners.

As the conference sessions were held across multiple rooms on various floors throughout the venue, a key technical challenge was to ensure the numerous distinct technology requirements of each session were met and synchronised with the program. With an incredibly varied line up of presentations, including those from tribal elders, academics and corporate executives, Impact AV Australia ensured each presenter had just the right level of audio visual support they needed.

Due to the huge level of interest, a greater than expected number of delegates attended.  This meant during keynote presentations, the audience spilled over from the auditorium into adjacent rooms.  Impact AV’s technical set-up and smooth live streaming ensured the vision could be enjoyed by all delegates, no matter whether in the auditorium, media room or spillover rooms.

The Results

The high profile event went off without a hitch. Feedback from the host organisation, delegates and the event organiser was overwhelmingly positive, with particular praise for Impact AV Australia’s professional approach to the set up and the technical expertise and positive manner of our team.
